We are excited to release the first of several lagers this year…What’s a lager you say? Although there are all sorts of different styles of beer the two major classifications are broken into Ales and Lagers. The easiest way to describe the difference between the two has to do with the yeast and fermentation temperature. Ales use top fermenting yeast that prefer warmer temperatures (above 60) and lagers use bottom fermenting yeast that prefer cooler temperatures (below 50). Ales take a shorter amount of time to ferment and age (3-5 weeks) than lagers (8+ weeks). Due to many factors, most of the styles of beer we find in the craft beer world tend to be ales. We are devoted to keeping one of our fermenters exclusive for lagers and the first release of 2022 is…Dog Island Dark
“Dog Island Dark” is a Munich Dunkel by style. The word “dunkel” is German for “dark” and this style offers a rich malt character with flavors of bread, chocolate and caramel. We are happy to offer you a delicious blast of Old Man Winter with this lager.
